Aaron Draplin & The Art of the Side Hustle Pt. 1 | #LIVINGOFFTHEWALL | VANS

you Jesus Christ um well let me see if I’m gonna try it from the alright I’m Aaron James drap I’m the sole proprietor of the drepung design company and what you’re seeing here is about the last fourteen or fifteen years of my life stuff for big clients little clients in that time I made field notes with my buddy Jim kudu all to Chicago everywhere I got to go do my tall tales from a large man you know speaking fiasco I’d make a poster for that place but you know as I scan all this stuff so much of it was just for the draclyn design company so I guess I’m my biggest client you know me yeah how’s that can we just be done can we just as a dinner time Siri what times does this is my little corner and where I work and conduct business you know and make stuff and yeah I made a poster with all my logos on it right so this is up to it for an art show at the Minneapolis College of Art Design we went to school but I just put all the logos I’ve made over the years of bands brands buddies whatever the hell things that I love I mean my favorite logo of all time is the 76 Bicentennial logo right the guy at the tattoo shop made fun of me because he was like it wasn’t like artistic enough it was below him to just transfer this vector onto my leg but no he went to put some skulls or some koi or some other that that he was good at and this is sort of below him you know so anyway that guy really getting on this the idea is at some point this stuff goes away so here’s what I’ve been playing with and looking at and just kind of gone okay these are interesting things and I’ll just go try to grab something here that you know got me oh just something okay so this is stuff now at some point whoo I’m like jealous of abilene right right okay okay so right so okay here’s something I got from a little junk store unscientific pricing of course and now to come home and say all right now we’re just singing the guy I’ve kind of find it and I’ll go find a big stash of EMCO stickers here and this will go into the mix and then you know the idea being over the years I remember we talked with the Expo stuff ooh but this is interesting because this is actually from a guy that was with the Spokane Expo it’s called exploit 74 you see that so these are the guys that made little water decals to put around like Spokane to say get out of here get out of our backyard even that’s what that’s about here’s my matchbook collection first date envelopes right and when they would launch some festival or commemoration of something they would do a first date envelope and would go out to all the collectors to get the little stamp but when it would that stamp would hit the I think that’s right but anyway uh this one’s heavy but I love old tape measures right because oh they’re just sorry sorry I’m sorry it’s my mom okay yeah it was hey mom I got a camera crew here I gotta call you back okay okay okay I’ll call you little I remember getting the whole crew in the hole okay whoo I mean like one of my favorite logos of the Great Northwest but in Cal or whatever it was Shasta Cola and any number of versions of Shasta Mountain but this right here I’ve never ever I’ve never even seen this version that’s man this is coming home with me look at the front these are your options the front look at the back oh this is where we were just look it look at the great little piece of family and the great little weird P and want just you know white flash whatever you know just three color yeah this makes me sad that things don’t feel awesome like this anymore and we we still get to do that you know but so this is coming with me that’s a good think about I like just to see what’s on the side of the box right so I’ll come and take pictures is just this kind of stuff and then always remember to look on the bottom of the box see again again look at this look at this see dun dun told you I told you I got to put this back see look at this this is this don’t put this in there but this is we see a lot of this around here these guys from the 70s and 80s Rosicrucian I don’t know it was a mystical Society it’s like Mason’s on the back here that’s it out so I’ll scan that rebuild that all the crust and then a little gnarly our ball around it and blow that up but I mean what am I going to do with peanut butter chips from 1979 but you know leave them up for guests
