    Music is a language in itself which touches our hearts. To be frank, not just Beethoven but many composers have faced adversities and have had early deaths… It's fascinating to learn about their lives as it reflects directly into the kind of music they composed.

    Here's some info about musical periods:
    The musical periods are usually broken down into hundred year stretches. These periods names: 

    1600-1700 – Baroque
    1700-1800 – Classical
    1800-1900 – Romantic
    1900-2000 – Modern

    Note: the musical eras are not generally defined with these specific dates, but it is useful for music theory analysis and learning. 

    Composers:
    Some of the most famous composers of each era are as follows:

    Baroque – Bach, Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel

    Classical – Mozart, Schubert, Haydn, Clementi, Beethoven, Brahms

    Romantic – Paganini, Rachmaninov, Elgar, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Wagner, Bizet, Berlioz, Verdi, Sarasate, Tchaikovsky, Monti Czardas, Liszt, Saint Saens, Kreisler 

    Modern – Ravel, Debussy, Ireland, Shostakovich, Gershwin, Britten, Stockhausen 

    While some composers (e.g. Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky ,etc.) were prolific and wrote in many different genres, other composers focused on just a few types of composition. It's useful to know these:

    Eg:
    Chopin, Liszt & Rachmaninov – piano music, or piano with orchestra
    Strauss – waltzes
    Verdi & Wagner– operatic
    Schubert – Lieder (songs for voice and piano)
