– There’s a song that
says life is hard, but you gotta change. (upbeat hip-hop music) It’s interesting ’cause
the work of an artist is very lonely. – And so collaborating
is not very common. – I think my artwork,
it’s very colorful because I’m from an island. And I waked up every day
with the beach, the Sun, all these colors of
nature around me. So I guess that’s very
in tune with what I do. – I use a lot of cubes,
I use a lot of cages. Most of my paintings have
probably about five layers of paint on ’em. A lot of my artwork,
it’s kinda fun, it’s a little bit
conservative too, but there’s a little
bit of openness. – [Fabian] Natalie call
me, “Hey, we got this idea. “We wanna put you and another
Austin artist together “in a place where you
guys can collaborate and do your thing. Basically, to meet this artist
and to work by his side. – Then I saw him
starting to work, and he was telling me
his political angle, and I had my political angle I was thinking of
at the same time, and I think that’s where
we really came together. He talked about the
politics in Puerto Rico, and I talked about the
politics in America. – And we kind of
connected in that stage, and we said, (speaking
in foreign language) “You know what? “It could be cool if we
do this and we do that.” And all of the sudden,
it became bigger. We’re artists, we were
painting the floor, painting the walls. – And I thought that
would be interesting to have that on a canvas. – Then, I went there, I painted, and then he comes
back the other day. He painted on top of it. And then I come back
on the other day, and I painted something
else on top of it. So I think it’s fantastic
that we are different from each other, and we
embrace each other differences. – [Russell] We come
from different places, different personalities,
different styles. We’re just completely
different people. And then we come together
for a common goal. – [Fabian] Our ideas
change each other’s ideas. – That’s why we came up
with the name Changes, ’cause it’s important. It’s important that we adapt, we changed even through our
journey coming up with the work. – When you change, you grow. You become better,
and you become wiser, and you become a better artist. – [Announcer] Support for
this program made possible by the Kodosky Foundation. (bright flute music)
