DIY Pop Art Polymer Clay Pendant Necklace | ANN LE

(bright pop music) – Hey, guys. How’s it going? So, as you know by now, we will be making some pendants representing our state or country, showing some pride and love right there. So, I was inspired by pop art and I’ve been noticing a
lot of jewelry designers. They’ve been making lots
of state pendant necklaces and I will also be showing you how to make some faceted beads, where you can make them
into necklaces or bracelets. It’s really fun, very poppy and colorful. And it’s really simple to
make, so let’s get started. Okay, guys, so for this
project you will need some polymer baking clay. Any fun color of your choice will do. This is the kind of clay that
hardens when you bake it. It’s not just any regular clay. To cut the clay, you will need a knife and a pointy object. If you’re too young to handle a knife, make sure to have an
adult help you with this. And if you’re an adult
who can’t handle knives, well then, I have nothing to say. You will also need a chain necklace and a couple of jump rings. Finally, I found some images
of Texas and California in a Google search, but you can pretty much use any state or country that you want to represent. This should be fun. This should be something
you can personalize or customize for somebody. It’s definitely a super fun project. Okay, so first, start by
taking out the polymer clay and break off 1/4 of it. Polymer clay feels pretty
dry and hard at first, but as you knead it with
the warmth of your hands, it will slowly soften up the clay. Now it’s time to cut out the state or the country of your choice. And this is basically
going to be your template and your cutting guide. The next thing you’re
going to do with your clay is roll it out nice and flat. And if you want your pendant
to be thin and dainty, then make sure to roll it
to your desired thickness. Okay, so once you roll out your clay to your desired thickness, it’s now time to take out your template, place it on top, and take
your knife and cut around. Don’t worry too much about
the little squiggly lines or the details. As long as you make out
the main shape of the state or the country, it should look good enough to use. After you’re done cutting, soften the edges with your fingers. And then, find a sharp
object to puncture in holes or a hole where you’d like
your chain to connect. So, I hope you guys are
enjoying this tutorial so far. And let’s jump into
making the faceted gems. Now, this is super simple and easy to do and they’re also really, really cute. All you have to do it
knead the clay into a ball and slice the sides to
create angles and edges. I like using fun, bright colors for this because it just looks really fun and it pops with anything you wear. So, if you want to make faceted beads, find something pointy like a needle or a shish kabob stick
to poke holes in them. This way, you will be
able to insert strings in order to make a necklace or a bracelet. Okay, so yay! We are done. Now, it’s time to bake these creations. All clay brands have
different instructions on how to bake, so make sure to read the
instructions on your label. Mine is 275 degree Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes in the oven. Although the package said
it’s completely non toxic, I’m still going to bake it inside two sheets of aluminum foil, just to be safe from any harmful fumes. So, after your pendants are done baking, make sure to let it set and
cool at room temperature. Once it’s cooled, you can use jump rings on where you placed the holes earlier. So that way, you can connect
them onto the chain necklace. These faceted beads cool
down pretty quickly. And so, I am stringing it in and mixing it with other beads that I had. And this is just a really adorable look. If I had a daughter, I would probably make a
whole bunch of this for her. And yes, that’s basically it. You just have to string them and then tie the string together. Well, this is an elastic string. I highly recommend using an elastic string so that way, you can make
this to your desired length. And then, you tie the ends together and just loop it over your
head and around your neck. Thank you guys so much for watching. Also, comment below, let me know what kind of state or country you will be representing. I want to know where you
guys are viewing from. And last week I announced
October’s winner. And this month, for November, I will be doing another giveaway. So, if you guys aren’t
familiar with my monthly most engaged subscriber giveaway, all the rules are on the
bottom of this video. And so far, I purchased
some new items right here. This is just the beginning of it. I found a really, really
cute bear measuring tape. Adorable! And then, I found some colorful threads, which I think that your guys would like. And a lot of you guys
always request or ask where I got my DIY ruler from. And I made sure to add
this in the package. And then here, I have some fabric tape. And so, I’m just going to
add more into this package. Let me know what you
guys would like to see, like a glue gun, or craft glue, or glitter, whatever it is. I will look into that. And I will talk to you guys later. Bye! Ciao!
