How Austin's homeless ordinances help street musicians | KVUE

well a lot of people have complained about them but turns out those recent changes to Austin's homeless ordinances are a good thing for street performers cavies Molly Oak John's us now to explain that Molly Mike when Austin's homeless ordinances were revised recently the City Council removed restrictions that kept homeless people from asking for money between hours of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and that change has helped Austin street performers where busking mama told me busking is playing music or doing some other art on the street and hopes for a little food money gas money a little little some prayer troubles and yeah art on the street basically they will pay and Rick carny with the Austin Music Commission says it wasn't clear if that art was legal or not until now kind of the law of unintended consequences the the new ordinance along homelessness is allowed busking to take place without any question on its legality and he says this gives musicians more chances to play and to make some money every little bit helps any any way that we can increase income for musicians is a good thing musicians like Andrew price and Nathan Swope this is the first city I ever bust been it's a thrill getting a chance to play in the city known as the live music capital of the world that's why I'm here but price says he's not here for the money for me it's just a love of music it's just it's like for its own sake you know you do music for music sake it's sort of is its own reward so yeah money's green I'm not never gonna say no to a $20 bill you know but that's not why phrasing Swope say busking gives them a chance to play music and meet people so when price learned there's now no question of busking is legal here in Austin great news for me it's excellent for me you could say that's music to his ears and while the city says that 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. curfew is no longer in effect it does say people still have to follow the noise ordinance in the studio Molly okv news
