Koffee is The Most Successful JM Artist for 2019 | Fox 5 NY Interview

well Jamaica has a new rising reggae star and her name is coffee you may not have heard of her yet Lisa Evers is here now tell us why these young singers on the verge of global success Lisa well Stephen they're she's very amazing and she is still in her teens but Coffee is already making big moves with her music career she's taking her love of her native Jamaica and traditional reggae and adding her own voice and views offer a higher purpose at a stage when many teens are trying to figure out what to do after they finish school Michaela Simpson known as coffee already knows her purpose I caught up with her anaconda loft at spice warehouse in Hudson square she tells me it's to shine a light on societal problems and offer solutions I'm inspired by artists like legends like Bob Marley sermon watching a filled with interviews and listening to his music realizing that he didn't do it for vanity or fame or money but he did it to make an impact on his environment growing up in Spanish town where violence can be a part of everyday life coffees mother kept her busy with school a practical spirituality and singing in the church that upbringing has kept her rooted in reality while many artists pursue inste Fame and material status symbols coffee sticks with positive values when I evaluate myself and the society I realized that it's much better to do something worthwhile than just to do something to create a buzz but a big buzz is exactly what happened unintentionally in 2017 when coffee posted a 60 second clip on Instagram of her performing a song she wrote as a tribute to Olympic athlete and world record holder Usain Bolt he reposted it to his millions of followers it does not mean weird for me still is what the greatest part of it is being able to appreciate other people appreciating your music and seeing the love that they have for you do it kind of gives you a motivate so it gives you a different Drive it also to attention and opportunities from Jamaica's highly competitive and hyper creative music industry she released her first single called burning with up set of Records and was invited to perform with protege and chronics two of the most popular current reggae artists who hold a special place in her own creative evolution when everyone else was listening to unite the mainstream hits and you know the popular songs and stuff I felt like I didn't need to be a part of that and so I started searching for something else where I came across protΓ©gΓ©e and chronics the music of these two leaders of the new reggae roots movement resonated with coffee who wants to bring the positive vibes and uplifting change to the world they're fairly young representing for the country for the culture and for the youth and I realized that it was possible unless it's possible to vibe the songs like that and to enjoy them when you know just as much as you would enjoy the heat that's being played everyday coffees latest hit toast is on rotation playing on a variety of radio stations including hot 97 she's also a featured up next artist on Apple music while reggae is her first love she's looking into other genres as she performs internationally and works on her first album in one of the best parts about my career is my ability to travel to new places even with people who don't even speak my language and have them be able to enjoy what I'm doing Coffey tells me she got her nickname in school and it's stuck on a hot day when everyone else was getting a cold drink she asked for coffee she's planning a school tour for students in Jamaica in the fall where she'll perform and show them anything as possible nice alright thank you Lisa
