welcome to level 2 of creating the ultimate hive mind tone this is very exciting for me to have this program this is the sound engine we're gonna be talking about and you know positive grid it has been pioneering capturing and getting it right you know there's a lot of other companies out there that are doing well but I think these guys are the best for me I've been with positive grid for Jesus maybe six years now so I'm very excited to see the development here in the evolution right now they have this setting here called American dream [Applause] [Applause] and I just love how it sounds I don't use all of this obviously for the high-gain stuff but I definitely want to come back and mess with it I mean just look at the full spectrum of what you can possibly do with this this is amazing but I don't need all of it for my rhythm tone so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go down to single here all right and I'm gonna get rid of all this I just want to pick the amp that I'm gonna be using because all the effects yeah I prefer to do that after the fact so let us get rid of all these pedals now we're down to the clean amp and now we're gonna choose our amplifiers so they have a lot of stuff here they've got a lot of low gain stuff crunch high gain acoustic and based I love the acoustic simulators that they have absolutely amazing they've got a keyboard amp here really cool stuff man these guys have thought of everything in there they continue to evolve and try out new things really cool I love the amps that they have here I really do they've got all of my favorite amplifiers they've got the you know the the pv stuff you know they've got the Mesa and all of that they got the B II okay so they got Freedman in here and let's see what else they got they got Bogner okay if got dulk a German fire I love it so that would be the fireball that would be the angle amps yeah they've got a lot of marshal stuff in here and I love seeing this O'Donnell okay they got the mark series stuff great great great great stuff man and I you know I've been through all this I just kind of like toggling through all of the different presets and I love what they have I am a creature of habit I love to use my stuff so I'm gonna pull it from bias amp here which I have my own preset and they have all the different amps here as well everything from bias amp I'm gonna go to metal here and choose my amplifiers so my amplifier is going to be the Martucci Plus this is my most favorite amp in all of history of the world of England it is amazing okay it's just my favorite amp and I love that they have it in here and I maybe I even made a preset of my own out of it now in bias amp you can actually go in and customize the amp from the inside out I'm talking preamp tubes to the power tubes to the transformer that you're using to the rectifier to that you're using and then you can EQ and and compress and all this stuff and you can actually bias the amp it's actually sick what you can do with it I'm really proud of these guys for just sticking to their guns and building this thing into something awesome moving on we have my presets here so my EQ nothing special when you have a fine amplifier you get fine sound and the EQ shouldn't be so much of a problem and it isn't and so I don't tweak it too much with them are two C+ stuff in real life I don't know if they've emulated it here but you know you can back off the gain a little bit just squeeze it just right out to the tip where you get it that break up and stay in that safe spot and then what you can do is bring up the treble to emulate that up a little bit more gain and presence its sound that's just something that I learned by watching a shit-ton of John Petrucci videos and it just sounds amazing I don't know if they emulated it here but I always kind of mess with this and toggle it up just a little bit the presence not only a mess with a lot of this stuff is very very neutral guys very neutral and again I'm thinking about how I want this to sound in the mix ahead of time I just know my sound of my setup that well and then i'm using the celestion v30 s i'll get into using a cab in a second but let's see how they sell oh okay sounds really big it sounds like something that I would use in that it it very very very very nice man loving it loving it okay so moving forward choosing the cab now the cab bet this comes with is celestion v30 s which is you know that's my favorite that's my go-to staple set of speakers there and it will always be that I always go for the thirties but they obviously have everything you need all kinds of cabs in here now this is from bias amp I'm actually you know from messing around with this actually came up my own preset and I actually prefer the factory for speaker setting for the solution V therasp number six there it is and you know these guys are constantly evolving so it does sound different what you heard there was like an older sound that they had before which sounds very very nice very cool however I prefer this setting here so we have the four speakers so that's gonna be thirties number six in BIOS fix two and let's see how that sound okay so very fluffy it is clipping and the reason for that is is that we have to understand when it comes to recording real guitars is that when you have a microphone of choice which the sm57 is a staple always use that mix with anything else always use the sm57 for this style of music that's what I say and it's on the it's on me it's almost rim here you don't want that you get a lot of base of the rig okay and as you get closer and closer to the cap you get more precision and more clarity and that's just how the speaker actually sounds that's what you want so once again you know you have the limb you have the cone which is from here to about here which is that that's your sweet spot I like to capture that with another mic and then you have your edge here which is between the cap and the cone and then you have the cap itself so I like to keep that right in the cache so that's your sexy sounds real nice I'm gonna close the back see if that even has a difference alright guys and what you're looking at right now is exactly what you'd be looking at if you went into my preset which is here go to bank 1 AJ's Martucci plus there it is I'm gonna ignore cuz I'm not gonna save an American drink it has that and there you go you're looking right at this now I'm gonna get into a bit of mixing mics I've been waiting forever for those guys to allow us to mix mics inside of this thing and they finally did it and I am so psyched about that I will show you exactly what I do with that and which mics I use and why inside the session so here it is guys bare-bones noise filter Drive alright with the level set usually you know the tube screamers are to promote more Drive which means you need more level not actual saturation so I have that dialed back I have the tone set up because I want this to come through clear in the mix maybe live I'd back it up back down to about 50% but for my mixes I know that I like to have it way up and then the level right at 50 just adds more signal which kind of pushes the front of the amp before the amp has to push itself which is great Yesi so I have this dial back down to 4 so a very little gain and then the tube screamer adds a bit more signal and it's just really clean crisp and clear without too much crazy hiss and saturation and gain and all this ugliness and then the celestion v30 s so again I'm pulling my amp from bias and then into bias effects too but I am using the bias effects to celestion v30 setup so that I can mix mics oh I'm so happy with this sound great job positive grid and this is the basic setup for the hivemind rhythm
