Practice Tips For Musicians

so I want to offer up a couple more practicing tips today first for beginners I really recommend that you practice every day at the school we like to say practice only on the days that you need to eat it's a little bit corny but it but it is fine so practice every day and what I recommend is 15 to 20 minutes really I strive for the 20 mark okay so that's and that's for beginners and don't forget the importance of warmups get those fingers moving and and you know if you're a horn player you know warm-ups especially for brass players really important so warm-ups you know finger exercises and three let's keep going here maybe go down here listen to your body if you're if your hands hurt or your wrist hurts or if you're a horn player if your embouchure hurts you know it's time to you know take a break and just you know just be aware so make sure that your practice area is really comfortable you want to include you know make sure your chair is comfortable you've got good lighting you want to make sure that you have a stand music stand maybe an instrument stand I always felt but the instrument stands are crucial because you can take out your instrument and as long as it's kind of out of the way and you put it away you can leave it out which is nice you know metronome tuner those things are usually free on iPhones or or or Android phones maybe yeah maybe even a computer what else so make your area comfortable yeah what else I'm really important you know to take care of your instrument if you have a saxophone you want to make sure that that it's in proper working order you want to make sure that your piano is tuned mine went for a long time without tuning it and anyway so it's important to take care of your instrument um next oh yeah I forgot to add over here that you want to maybe have a CD player too what else I think it's also important to have rewards you know one thing that we used we used to do in the summers was we'd make some tea when we were practicing and it would be ready and if the Sun is out here in the northwest but rewards are cool you know take a walk if you get tired you know take a break get some you know get some water take a walk if you get tired I would say just put the instrument down and do something else for a while okay what else one more one of my teachers always used to say do what you have to do and then do what you want to do so in other words you know do the things that you really need to do make sure that you're you have your music prepared you know for either your private lesson or for for band and then afterwards you know have some fun with it you know Hong Kong saxophone you know Hong Kong clarinet or whatever you're playing so so do what you do first and then fine you know have fun with it so there are some ideas for you we'll add some more I'm sure I'm sure there's things that I forgot but thanks so much for watching and we'll see you next time
