Riverlines: Abstract Paintings Made with Mississippi River Water and Sediment

I’m an abstract painter, and I create paintings
from local water and sediment. I have a process of going to the river, going
to local shorelines, gathering the water, gathering the sediment in an honorable way,
and then bringing it into my studio and, through both pouring and brushing, I add the texture
of the sand from the land onto the canvas. For me, when I was painting about these places,
I wanted to add a layer of intention with my materials as well. And so, not to just paint about water, but
to actually paint with water from a special site, was an idea that came to me and really
I just ran with it.
