“Sweetheart The Rent Is Due”, Of Us and Art: The 100 Videos Project, Episode 77

I'm Austin Swearengen this is my exhibition sweetheart the rent is due it's all lightly based off of a fictional narrative that I wrote and it follows the life of a young artist the daily struggles you know that one would go through my objects they have this crudeness to them in the way that like a memory has a crudeness or like confused state of being there's a certain poetic ISM and figuring out a material that I would like to work with and then how I can transform that into an object that then means something to me I want to use the penny as raw material you can melt it down really easily I just use like a little jewelry foundry and so I started melting them down and making pushpins also I cast my inhaler out of pennies there's a small mask on the wall made out of pennies for a long time I worked without drawing anything a lot of what I've been doing recently is trying to figure out how to make a drawing without using typical drawing materials so cheap simple pie and cut up and like force together it was just a way of drawing in space for me with one of the pieces in the show it's being held up by just like little brats plants that I made and it really has this like kind of weightlessness to it I really wanted to capture that each piece holds a little section of the narrative and kind of like builds it you know from the ground up so like almost like how different stage sets you know build build a play narrative I think it really does make the work make a little more sense together you
