Why Writers Need to Shine Their Light

this video is about shining your light this is Mary yucks as a writer I value my privacy a quaint like hiding but some wonderful words that had changed everything for me let me tell you what happened since publishing my book secrets of youthful aging I've been forced out of hiding first I've been showcasing an article that all major news outlets in the country I live in have published I live in New Zealand so this is not exactly a huge exposure nevertheless this has led to some new developments for example I was chosen to be one of five members of a steering committee which wants to change Nelson where I live into a city of for all ages they chose me from a potential pool of 120 people I was a bit surprised by this and because I'm so enthusiastic and active they want me to be the poster girl for this project now yesterday I had to visit the CEO of an organization which is tasked by the government to look after all sporting activities in our region because opportunities for exercise are so important when I told the guy Nigel that I'm 71 years old and the karate black belt in active training his eyebrows shut up he gave me a high five and said I can't believe it then I went on to tell him that I've recently taken up road biking and how enthusiastic I am about physical activity he looked at me said I want to clone you what he said at the end of the meeting changed how I think about privacy Nigel turned to me and said keep on shining your light keep on shining your light and I suddenly realised that's our task as human beings we all have our particular light and we need to shine it that's our imperative as writers I must admit it's a scary thought after all if you share yourself with the world and shine your light you can also make enemies people may try to put you down or pull you down but to share to be generous with their words and ideas that's our task as writers it's hard to see your own light that's why I love mentoring others in one way or another I see my task as holding up a mirror so that the other person can catch a glimpse of their light so shine your light this is Mary yucks the editor in chief of writer done calm
