My name is Zbynek Hraba and I am a printmaker. I am into applied graphics, especially colored lino-cuts. Lino-cut is very simple graphic letterpress technique. Wood-cut and wood block were antecedents and when linoleum was developed, people realized it was easy to cut, softer than wood and widely available, so this technique has expanded greatly and lino-cut has recently experienced a rebirth. On one hand, my inspiration is nature, when I do more or less realistic views of the countryside in colored lino-cuts. In addition, a second graphic level is sort of imaginative creation, which more likely rises from my inner feelings displaying my inner emotions, moods and experiences, which stay within me and which I work with. I would like to achieve some sort of relaxation in my work so that these creations could be more open to the spectator, possibly not even finished. In this way there could be space for fantasy and the spectator’ emotions, so they could put in their own imaginings and feelings.
